Pneumatic Pressure Alarm – Pool Systems
Resolving pneumatic pressure alarms caused by incorrect switch settings
Applies to
Pool filtration systems with pneumatically actuated valves and air pressure monitoring.
Symptom
The system triggers a pneumatic pressure alarm, even though:
-
The compressor pressure is stable (typically 6–8 bar)
-
Pressure only drops briefly when valves are operating
-
No obvious air supply issues are observed
Expected behaviour
-
The pneumatic pressure switch is designed to trigger an alarm only if air pressure drops below 1 bar
-
At normal operating pressure, the alarm should not activate
-
The pressure switch can be re-set if the setpoint has been unintentionally changed
Most common cause
In most cases, the issue is caused by the pressure switch being re-edited at an incorrect pressure level.
This can happen if:
-
The “Edit” function was pressed while the air pressure was too low
-
The switch now interprets a higher pressure as “NOT OK”
This results in false alarms, even though the compressor pressure is sufficient.
Step-by-step procedure
-
Reduce the air pressure
-
Slowly reduce the regulated air pressure to approximately 1 bar
-
Confirm the pressure on regulation gauge
-
-
Re-edit the pressure switch
-
Press “Edit” on the pressure switch
-
This defines:
-
Pressure above 1 bar = OK
-
Pressure below 1 bar = NOT OK
-
-
-
Increase the pressure again
-
Increase air pressure back to normal operating range (6–8 bar)
-
Observe the system status
-
Status indication
-
Yellow light ON → Pressure OK
-
No yellow light → Alarm active
If the yellow light is on and the alarm is cleared, the pressure switch is correctly set.
Additional checks
-
Verify the alarm delay setting in the control system
(typically Alarm 3 for pneumatic pressure) -
Confirm that the air supply remains stable during valve operation
-
Check for leaks in the pneumatic system
Important notes
-
The 1 bar limit is hard-coded in the pressure switch
-
Disabling the pneumatic pressure alarm is not recommended
-
The issue is almost always configuration-related, not a hardware failure
When to contact LiqTech Service
Please contact LiqTech Service if:
-
The pressure switch cannot be re-edited
-
The alarm remains active with verified pressure above 1 bar
-
The pressure indication is unstable or inconsistent
